How to Use an iPad Leather Case
If you purchase an iPad leather case you can read to learn how to install your device into the cover. If you want to make one, the final paragraphs will give some simple, easy-to-follow instructions. Before you put your computer into any case, clean it with the cleaning cloth that is shipped with the case you purchased. Open the cover and place the iPad on the cover. If there is a clear portion on the cover put the screen side on that open part. Close the cover and you are ready to tote your portable computer.
After you have carried the cover for a while you may want to clean it. If you have mildew stains mix 1 cup of alcohol and 1 cup water. Use a cloth dipped into the solution and wipe off the stain. For ink stains, spray the area with hairspray and wipe with a clean cloth. If the leather gets wet allow it to dry completely away from the heat. You will need to condition the leather to restore it to its original softness. Grease stains should be blotted first then dusted with talcum powder or cornstarch. Allow to sit for up to four hours before wiping away the powder. Gum needs to be hardened with an ice bag so the gum can be pulled off. Treat the residue with heat from a hair dryer and rub until the gum releases. For salt stains mix vinegar 3 parts to 1 part water. Dip a clean cloth into the mixture and dab on the salt stained area.
To make your own leather cover you will need a length of leather, binding boards, elastic, Velcro, and liner paper. You will need PVA glue to affix these items. Start by tracing out the measurements onto the binding board. Cut out with a utility knife and lay on top of leather that is on a flat surface. When you cut the leather leave at least 2cm excess to fold over on the binding boards. Leave a gap of 1 millimeter between the spine and the front and back cover to allow the leather to fold. Use the PVA glue to attach the leather to the binding boards then fold over the excess and glue. Cut the liner paper and affix inside each cover. Allow the glue to dry overnight. Use your utility knife to cut two small holes to loop the elastic through. This will need to be measured with the cover closed to get the appropriate length. Glue on the inside. Affix Velcro on each side to help secure the iPad. As you can see an iPad 2 leather case can be made or purchased.
